Brown meat in
hot shortening, add 1 1/2 cups of hot water and the 1/2 cup of wine and bring to
a boil. Remove meat and liquid and put in crock pot. Add the rest
of the spice
ingredients. Reserve the vegetables till the last 2 hours. Cover, simmer 3-1/2
hours, stirring occasionally, if you're home.
Add the vegetables. Cook another 2 hours.*
Remove the meat and
vegetables, thicken the liquid for gravy. Slowly
blend flour
into 1/3 cup
cold water. Stir flour mixture
slowly into hot stew.
Cook and stir
until bubbly. (you can also use corn starch)
*If you're going to be
out all day, and want dinner done when you come home, pre-cook the
vegetables (micro wave is good) and warm them to add about half an hour
before you're ready to serve. |
